Step 1:

Win95 users only: Download DCOM98.EXE (1.16MB) and install it before installing Plants for Professionals. This will upgrade your database technology to that of Win98 which is the minimum requirement for the PFP software.

Step 2:

Download Plants for Professionals vs. 4.1.0 (pfp_vs4.exe) (17MB) and install. It is recommended to use default settings during the installation process. The download file is a self extracting zip file. Users do not need to have Winzip to install the software. After unzipping the setup files to a directory (the default directory is C:\PFP Setup), navigate to the directory in Windows Explorer and run Setup.exe to install Plants for Professionals Global Intranet.

If during installation you get messages about some files could not be installed, ignore them and carry on regardless. If after installation you cannot run the software, load a database or encounter some other problem, make a note of all comments that appear on any message box and contact the author at dcward@pfpnet.com. While such problems are rare, they have been known to occur, mainly related to database technology within the users computer operating system. Be assured that everyone that has installed the software is able to fully use it, though two have had system hiccups that needed to be sorted.

Following installation of the software, run the software. The first thing to do is open the options dialog and enter your business details, which are required on numerous data reports.

Read the help file, which is included with the installation process. To open the help file, the F1 keyboard key will open the related help file for any active module. The F2 key will open the help file set to the Content tab. The F3 key will open the help file set to the Index tab.

Once the PFP software has been downloaded, users are welcome to burn the pfp_vs4.exe file onto a CD and make it available to others in the industry.

With the latest additions, the PFP software now has close to 100,000 lines of custom code within it. The code is guaranteed to contain no viruses, trogans, or spyware sub programs.
